Keep Nevada state history separate from Clark County records

Nevada’s state criminal-history process and Clark County’s local record systems serve different functions. A personal Nevada history request is a state repository task. A court docket, jail record, or police report is held by the court or agency responsible for that local record. Clark County’s own records guidance is useful precisely because it points users to separate custodians instead of presenting one combined county background database.

That separation helps interpret missing results. If a state-history request does not answer a question about a specific Clark County court filing, move to the court source; do not assume the filing is absent. Likewise, a detention lookup is evidence about custody, not the final court result. Keep each finding attached to its source, date, and jurisdiction so that the combined research remains transparent.

Choose the Nevada request and delivery format

As checked October 2, 2026, RCCD permits the electronic personal-history route only from inside Nevada; requests sent from outside Nevada must use the manual route. Start at RCCD’s personal-record instructions. Only the record subject may request this personal Nevada history.

Inside Nevada, the PID portal offers Standard results through its secure electronic portal, Certified results as a stamped copy mailed by USPS, or Notarized results with a notarized response letter mailed by USPS. Choose the format the recipient requires before paying. The manual fee and processing estimate below should not be assumed to apply to every electronic product.

For a manual request, complete DPS-006 and enclose one original FD-258 fingerprint card, with the required identifying details, your signature and all ten simultaneous impressions, taken, dated and signed by a certified fingerprint technician. Copies and previously processed cards are not accepted. The listed fee is US$27 per applicant, paid by an exact-amount money order or certified check payable to the Nevada Department of Public Safety; no cash or personal checks. The form provides a fee-exemption certification for qualifying sex-trafficking victims.

Mail the complete manual packet to Department of Public Safety, RCCD, 333 West Nye Lane #100, Carson City, NV 89706. RCCD asks applicants to allow approximately 45 days after receipt. Supply a valid return mailing address; its confidential response cannot be forwarded. The response is either a Nevada no-record letter or the Nevada record and accompanying letter.

If your Nevada history is inaccurate or incomplete, use DPS-008-X Request for Challenge. The accuracy-challenge route asks for the requestor section, a detailed statement, supporting documents and an original fingerprint card; mail them to the Criminal Records Unit at the RCCD address above. Do not email the record documents. The form allows up to 90 days for this challenge process.

Use local case identifiers to bridge between Clark County sources

If a background question starts from an arrest or detention clue, collect the agency, booking date, case number, and court information before moving between systems. Those identifiers make it possible to connect the local event to the appropriate court case without assuming every same-name record belongs to the same person. The Nevada state-history result can remain a separate check with its own scope and request method.
